How have print centers overcome difficulty?

Print centers have been busy triumphing over difficulty in recent months and years, one industry expert has announced.

Gail Nickel-Kailing, in an article for What They Think, notes like many small businesses, print shops have forever faced challenges, but have historically taken steps to overcome them.

She looks as far back as 1938, when George and Mary Cotronis opened a shop where customers could arrange business cards and envelopes. Today, the business is known as Academy Press and in addition to rising, it is also an established part of the community.

Current owner Terry Karis offers business recommendation and printing services to the nearby churches and restaurants, Ms Nickel-Kailing reports.

He claims the key to a good business is to hire consistent workers, give those benefits and reward them for good work.

"Academy Press can double over. We provide quality printing service and distribute good work. It's like a restaurant; you have to give good service," Mr Karis added.

His business is not the only US firm serving out by donating its services, with Graphics Arts Online recently reporting several print shops have been quick to contribute their time and services following the earthquake in Haiti.
